The Trailblazers LI 6th grade team secured 4th place seed for NYCHA Queens League. The citywide tournament consisted of numerous skilled and superb basketball teams from all over New York. Nonetheless, the 6th grade team impressively seized the 4th place seed.

In January 2014, Trailblazers’ LI Coaches participated in the community benefit basketball game for Baldwin. The basketball tournament took place in the gym of Baldwin Senior High School. Essentially, the purpose of the event was to raise money for the Baldwin community and its activities and sport programs. During the night, there were two major games, one that was equivalent to the WNBA and consisted of solely women and another that was equivalent to the NBA, comprised of only men. It so happened that the Trailblazers LI Coaches won their game! It was an entertaining evening with food, snacks, boutiques, and even a DJ. Nevertheless, the most imperative aspect of this event was the fact that the Baldwin community collectively strived to maintain the level of excellence and merit that the community has continuously represented. It was significant that this event was such a success because it was for the children, who are the brilliant and extraordinary generation of tomorrow.

In July 2013, the Trailblazers LI Team meets John Starks of New York Knicks at the Freeport Memorial Library. Starks, who started as a shooting guard on the Knicks in 1990s, came to the Freeport Memorial Library to sponsor the, “Knicks Read to Achieve 2013 Reading Program.” Starks read, “Hoop Genius” by John Coy, a story pertaining to how a teacher and a boisterous class one day invented the game of basketball. The event was inspirational; John Starks emphasized the importance of being both scholarly and successful at sports. “We want to make sure they really understand how important reading is to their growth and success later down the line,” Starks, 48, said. After John Starks read, “Hoop Genius,” he signed basketballs and copies of the book. The Trailblazers LI Team even took a photo with the NBA star!
